Predictions [UPDATED]
Sadly, this is an optimistic view. I'm saying the Democrats lose only 48 seats in the House and wind up with 52 Senate seats, counting Lieberman.
What say you?
[UPDATE: So, not a good not to be optimistic about the House. Democrats lost about 65 seats. In the Senate, Dems actually did a tiny bit better than I expected, and will have a 53-47 edge assuming we don't get any crazy ideas from Lieberman or Ben Nelson.
Where the night really feels bad is right here in Tennessee, which now has GOP control of the Governorship and both houses of the legislature for the first time since Reconstruction. There will be a lot of seriously crazy nut job bullshit coming out of our state now. What's that you say? It's already batshit insane? You ain't seen nothing yet.]

Is it too much to hope that most Democrats are scared sh!tless enough by the TeaBaggers that we'll actually get strong numbers, but we wouldn't guess it because all the press coverage has been about the outspoken nutbags?
Please don't answer my question, BTW, because I'm too scared to know the truth right now.
Well, it's Wednesday morning and ... ugh!
Agreed Wyatt. Ugh! (and Doh!) Never thought I'd have to live through another election like 1994....
You should be very excited for the future in Tennessee, Don. The last time the Republicans had that much power in the state, the party was extremely progressive on issues such as civil rights--they were instrumental in expanding rights for African Americans. It was under the Republicans, in fact, that former slaves in Tennessee gained American citizenship in the first place!
Also at that time, Republicans were quite concerned with infrastructure. Although it didn't involve Tennessee Republicans specifically, while Republicans were in power in the state, the national party moved forward with the transcontinental railroad! You can't get much more forward looking than that.
Will today's Republicans live up to the daring of their forebears? I guess we can only watch and wait to find out. But what an exciting place for you to be, Don.
I'm movin' back to Nashville!
